UNGRADABLE.
Welcome to the examination that cannot tell you who you are.
Three impossible questions. One slightly malfunctioning assessment machine. A strange little exploration of learning, comparison and what our institutions choose to notice.

SECTION 01 / A MOVING TARGET
The Ranking Machine.
Three fictional learners. Four different things you could measure. Discover how the choice of rubric changes the outcome.
Select at least two different rubrics. Watch the machine change its mind.
One lens; one visible winner.
Different assessments reveal different things. Change the rubric to see what the first result leaves out.

CURRENT LEADER / FICTIONAL EXAMPLEASHA / QUICK RECALL
Our imagined learner Asha leads when timed recall is the only criterion. This does not make her the best learner, or anyone else less capable.
LOCAL COMPUTATION / NO LOGINNOT AN EMPIRICAL ASSESSMENT
REDACTED MEMO / WHY THIS EXISTS
Context matters. Grades help identify particular skills, document progress and allocate scarce opportunities. The trouble begins when we mistake a measure of performance for a verdict on a whole human being.
A ruler can measure a desk. It cannot tell you what to build on it.
BEYOND THIS STRANGE LITTLE MACHINE
The actual ideas. In actual writing.
This experience is a newly authored interpretation—not an empirical model, standardised test, or substitute for the source arguments. These three works are its intellectual foundation.

Beyond the Classroom
Sahil Tayal explores intellectual variation, foundational learning, agency and the distinction between using AI to explore and using it to avoid understanding. The second question of this experience draws on that distinction.
The School Has a Ranking. Life Doesn’t Come With One.
An examination of grades, reference groups, academic identity and success without a universal mark scheme. The first and final questions reinterpret its central tension.
A distinction between building useful capabilities and reducing people's worth to their economic output. It informs the competing purposes in the final question.
Made as an independent, browser-native educational artwork by Sahil Tayal, a writer and independent researcher in New Delhi. The numerical attributes assigned to imaginary learners in Part 1 are invented solely to illustrate the consequences of choosing a measurement. They are not findings about real students. The outcomes of Parts 2–3 are qualitative reflections, not predictions or personalised advice. Audio is generated locally and only after activation. This project sends no responses to a server and uses no analytics or tracking scripts. Return to the complete public universe ↗
